Annual Christmas Concert

  • Union Church of Bay Ridge 7915 Ridge Boulevard Brooklyn, NY, 11209 United States (map)

On December 20th, the Union Church of Bay Ridge will present a Christmas Concert featuring the Union Church Choirs and Jim Ridl / Nate Birkey Jazz Quartet. They will be performing some of your favorite Christmas songs, as well as selections from Nate Birkey's 2008 Christmas Album.

All About Jazz called the album, "What comes to mind in connection with Nate Birkey: Christmas are dry martinis, The New Yorker magazine, twilights by the ocean, and being half-asleep as embers glow in the fireplace. - the quality of the music itself is quietly stunning."

The inspiration for the album is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It contrasts the sounds of Christmas Bells with the cannon shots of the Civil War, acknowledging the hard realities of conflict while asserting the enduring power of peace.

This concert is dedicated to Jamie Vuignier and his family.
